Help, and a human
at the end of it.
LinkWell is made by one small studio, so the person reading your email is the person who can fix the bug. Most answers are below — if yours is not, write to us and you will get a real reply.
Getting started
Do I need an account to use LinkWell?
No. The app works completely signed out, and it is not a trial — guest use is a supported way to use LinkWell forever. You only need an account if you want to sync between devices, use the browser extension, or publish a shared collection, because those are the parts that genuinely need a server.
Which phones does it run on?
iPhone and Android. There is no separate tablet app — the same app adapts to the larger screen.
Does it work without internet?
Yes, and that is the point. Saving, searching, folders, tags and reading anything you have already opened all work with no signal at all. The only things that need a connection are fetching a page you have never opened, and sync if you have it switched on.
How do I save a link?
Three ways: tap Share in any app or browser and pick LinkWell; copy a URL and use the paste button; or tap + and enter it yourself. All three fetch the title, icon and preview for you.
Importing & exporting
Can I bring my existing bookmarks in?
Yes — export an HTML file from Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, Brave or Opera, send it to your phone, then open Settings → Import links and pick it. Folder structure and dates come across. There are step-by-step instructions for each browser on the import page.
What about exports from other link-saving apps?
HTML bookmark files and CSV spreadsheet exports both work, and LinkWell works out which is which from the file itself. Titles, tags and dates are preserved where the export contains them. If you have a file it will not read, email it to us and we will usually add support for it.
Can I get my links back out?
Any time, on any tier, without asking us. Export writes your whole vault to a file you keep. Data you cannot remove is not really yours, so this will never be a paid feature.
My import was bigger than the free limit. What happened?
Nothing was silently dropped. The free tier holds up to 250 links, and if your file has more than will fit, the app tells you before importing anything and lets you decide how to proceed.
Sync, accounts & the extension
How do I sign in?
With Apple, with Google, or with an emailed sign-in code — no password to invent or forget. Signing in does not switch sync on by itself; that is a separate choice.
Why is sync a subscription when Lifetime is a one-time purchase?
Because they cost different things to run. The local app costs us nothing per user once you have bought it, so Lifetime can be a single payment. Sync stores your vault on servers that bill us every month for as long as you use them, so it has to be a recurring plan. Lifetime therefore removes the ads and the link cap on your device, but does not include sync.
Does the browser extension work on the free tier?
No, and this is the one place we would rather over-explain. The extension runs on a different machine from your phone, so the only place it can put a link is the cloud vault — which means it needs an active sync subscription. See the extension page.
What happens to my synced links if I cancel?
They are not deleted. Your local vault on the phone is untouched and keeps working, and your cloud data stays readable so you can pull it down — new changes just stop syncing up. If you want the cloud copy gone, delete your account and it is removed.
Plans, purchases & refunds
What does the free tier actually include?
The whole app on one device — saving, folders, tags, full-text search, reader mode, offline reading, reminders, import and export — up to 250 saved links, with a single banner ad. It is not a crippled demo.
How do I get rid of the ads?
Any paid tier removes them, including the one-time Lifetime purchase. There is no separate "remove ads" charge.
How do I cancel a subscription?
In your App Store or Google Play account settings, not in LinkWell — the stores handle all billing, so only they can cancel. Cancelling stops the next renewal and you keep the features until the end of the period you have paid for. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds are handled by Apple or Google, because they take the payment — we never see your card details. Apple: reportaproblem.apple.com. Google Play: play.google.com/store/account/orderhistory. If a refund is refused and you think that is unfair, email us and we will do what we can.
I paid and the app still says free.
Open Settings and use Restore purchases first — that fixes it in almost every case, usually after a reinstall or a new phone. If it does not, email us the store receipt and the email address on your LinkWell account and we will sort it out manually.
Privacy & your data
Can you see the links I save?
Not unless you turn sync on. Without it, your vault is a database on your phone and never reaches us. With sync on, your links are stored so they can be rebuilt on your other devices — but we do not read them, profile them, sell them or use them for advertising, and no analytics event ever carries a URL, title, note or tag.
What do you actually collect?
Coarse, anonymous usage events ("someone opened the reader"), crash reports, and — on the free tier — the data Google’s ad network needs to show a banner. All three are described in detail in the privacy policy, and the first two can be switched off in Settings.
How do I turn analytics and crash reports off?
Settings → Privacy. Two switches. Turning them off applies immediately and the app keeps working exactly as before.
How do I delete my account and everything in it?
In the app: Settings → Delete account. It permanently removes your cloud vault, your account and any collections you published. There are full instructions, including what is and is not deleted, on the delete account page.
Something is not working
A link saved with the wrong title, or no preview image.
Some sites block the fetch that reads their title and image, and some are just slow. Open the link, tap edit, and set the title yourself — it is saved locally and never overwritten afterwards.
Sharing from another app is not saving.
Share once more with LinkWell fully closed, then open the app — shares are queued on the device and drained when the app next launches, so a queued save appears on the next open. If it still does not, tell us which app you shared from; that detail is usually the whole bug.
The app says it is under maintenance.
Occasionally we take the cloud side down briefly to deploy something. Your local vault keeps working throughout — only sync pauses. If it lasts more than an hour or so, email us, because that is not intended.
How do I report a bug or ask for a feature?
Settings → Send feedback inside the app is the fastest route, because it attaches your app version and device model automatically. Email works just as well.
Still stuck?
Tell us what you were doing, what you expected, and what happened instead — those three lines are usually enough for us to reproduce it.
